General Labor for Sawmill and Construction
The duties and responsibilities of a laborer are all geared toward maintaining a clean, safe and efficient construction site while also supporting the overall project. The list of duties and responsibilities for a laborer on any given day may include the following:
- Cleaning and preparing construction sites.
- Loading and unloading materials and equipment.
- Building and taking down scaffolding and temporary structures.
- Digging trenches, compacting earth and backfilling holes.
- Operating and tending machinery and heavy equipment.
- Carpentry and framing
- Following instructions from supervisors and implementing construction plans.
- Assisting skilled tradespeople in their duties.
At the sawmill, you may be assigned to a variety of production tasks, including:
- Stacking and sorting lumber
- Wrapping and preparing lumber bundles for shipment
- Monitoring product quality
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area
- Assisting with production line operations
- Following safety procedures and company policies
- Supporting team members to maintain efficient production
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, instructions, and manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide including fractions, decimals, and whole numbers.
- Ability to read and interpret a tape measure accurately.
- Previous framing experience required.
- Attendance and punctuality are a requirement.
- Travel to and from jobsites: Most jobs are located in Lake County and Northshore, some jobsites are in Chicago, WI and IN. Paid travel time.
- Ability to lift 80 pounds
